RACV Emergency Wheelchair and Scooter Assist – Why We Recommend It

For people who rely on a mobility scooter or wheelchair, unexpected breakdowns can be stressful, unsafe, and highly disruptive. Equipment suppliers are not an emergency service and are often unable to provide immediate assistance, particularly outside business hours or during periods of closure. For this reason, it is important to have a reliable backup option in place.

At Improve Your Move OT, we strongly recommend RACV Emergency Wheelchair and Scooter Assist.

For around $30 per year, this service provides 24/7 emergency support and peace of mind when equipment problems occur. Membership includes access to up to 8 callouts per year.

What Support Is Included?

RACV can assist with:

  • Minor on-site repairs, such as tyre and tube replacements (if parts are available or you have spares)

  • Repairs at home, including minor mechanical fixes

  • Changing a flat tyre

  • Wheelchair-accessible taxi transport if the issue cannot be fixed on site. Up to $60 per trip is funded by RACV.

How the Service Works

  1. Call RACV Emergency Wheelchair and Scooter Assist on 13 11 11

  2. An RACV technician attends your location and attempts repairs

  3. If needed, a wheelchair-accessible taxi is arranged to take you home or to a repair provider

How We Support Our Clients

In addition to recommending RACV membership, we help our clients prepare by:

  • Supporting clients to have spare tyres and tubes available, particularly over holiday periods

  • Recording key battery and wheelchair details

  • Teaching clients and care teams how to use manual mode if the motors stop responding

We also offer an Emergency QR Code Tag for your wheelchair, which includes:

  • RACV membership number

  • Emergency contact numbers

  • Key wheelchair information, such as battery type, tyre and tube size, and step-by-step instructions for placing the wheelchair into manual mode

This helps reduce stress and ensures faster, safer assistance in an emergency.
